I have started teaching my daughter to treasure greenbacks with these simple habits and behavior:
Toy-selection: She now can easily understand why we have to choose a cheapo toy over a pricey one.I sometimes give her this option: Get one toy, priced moderately(?) or 3 toys when added, sums up close to the toy she adores. The analogy : It's 3 vs 1.. The outcome? She chooses one toy.Brilliant.
My "NO" is irrevocable: When I say no (during mall strolls) for a certain request like figures or dolls,I am effin' stiff, but I try to mull over economical substitutes. Think of papers and erasers as a replacement (on top of !!) for Doll Houses and Barbies. ha ha...
The Freakin' 4$ Rule: We shop with usually an au pair in tow, and when dot keeps on badgering me to buy her new toys/school supplies at the mall,I instruct child-minder to buy 5 items totalling 4$. Impossible but truly possible.
Virtual CashCans: She should understand and be aware of the dough we are subtly stashing for her.
Touchable CashCans: Coins are gems. We will soon open them, and she'll take part in the number crunching.
